Dear Members, Colleagues, and Friends,

a warm welcome to the EuroSpine 2010. EuroSpine, the Spine Society of Europe, was founded in 1998 as a union from the European Spine Society and the European Spinal Deformity Society during their Meeting in Innsbruck, Austria. In 2010 the EuroSpine Annual Meeting is back in Austria, this time in its capital, Vienna.

Vienna is located in the eastern part of Austria, close to the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary. It is by far the largest city in Austria with a population of about 1.7 million within the city and about 2.3 million in the metropolitan area. It is the countries cultural, economic, and political centre. At the same time it is a very safe, clean and green city. In 2005 an Economist Intelligence Unit study of 127 world cities ranked it first equal with Vancouver for the quality of life.

Vienna offers a wide variety of exciting things to experience – from old historic buildings, classic concerts, the Opera and other cultural highlights to modern museums and pop concerts. Walk in the footsteps of the Habsburgs, visit the splendid baroque Schönbrunn Palace or stroll along the magnificent Ring Boulevard and take a look at the Imperial Palace.

Vienna has a long tradition as a major conference site and established an outstanding reputation as conference city. Vienna ranks among the top congress destinations of the world, providing all the infrastructure and professionalism required to successfully organize premium scientific events. The EuroSpine Meeting will take place at the Messe Wien near the Prater, only a few minutes by public transportation from the historic city centre. The Messe Wien is a new and modern building, which offers us a perfect auditorium for our scientific program, as well as plenty of well organized space for our industrial partners to present their concepts and products.

Following a comprehensive discussion within the society and a survey within the members and partners the EuroSpine 2010 will be for the first time a full 3 day meeting, Wednesday to Friday. Thursday afternoon will not longer be free as usually, but Thursday will offer a full scientific program. Thus, the Meeting will end Friday evening. A pre-meeting will be organized with a special program on Tuesday.

We are certain that this will be a memorable and enjoyable meeting. We look forward to your participation at the EuroSpine 2010 in Vienna.
